Normally, i do not share my sketches before i test a pattern or a design, but this time is different. I was playing yesterday with Illustrator and i came up with this design for which i have very good feelings. It is quite eye-catching, simple, bold, energic and captivating. I have made several colour versions, positive and negative, with solids and prints. I’ll be making the gray shades and yellow shades, and probably the pink also.
THE INSPO
The quilt is inspired by Hitchcock’s masterpiece “Vértigo”. This quilt, after Magnolia, The African Queen or Chromosome, is also part of a series of quilts named after and inspired by movies. My intention is to one day to have the opporutnity of publishing a book linking quilts and movies, because for me they are linked in several ways: they are both artistic forms of expression, many of us quilt while watching a movie or we cover ourselves with a quilt on the sofa while watching movies
In this movie, as in many of his movies, Aside from the blonde women, Hitchcock focused the viewer’s attention on symbols that repeated throughout the entire footage. In this case, the spiral is repeated constantly during the film. That is the start point of the design.
